    The Reid Homestead was sold in 1970. This is a map of homestead as looked after it was subdivided, and some of the acreage around it.

    Asa W. Reid, b. 1855, is Kristy and Kirk's children's G.G.G. Grandfather. He d. 10 Sep. 1941. As Asa was Harry "Gib" Reid's grandfather, Gib was able to go to the feneral in Iowa with his Dad and Alida.

    There have been some changes made since we sold our Alaska home in July of 1964, and moved to the south 48 states. Our log garage burned down in abt. 1980. The new garage that we built a year before leaving can be seen in the back ground. The house looks good, and beleave it or not in this photo the house still has it's original red roll roofing.

    This photo was taken abt age 18 years, Harry was working as Railroad Yardman in the Washington, Iowa switch-yard.
  • Our June 1947 Alaska Trip Map (85 KB)
    Eileen prepaired this map of our 1947 move to Alaska for her parents in England. We used a surplus 1943 Army Jeep, and 6 foot cargo trailer to make the one month drive of 4000 miles from Chicago, IL. Of this total, over 1200 miles was on gravel road, at speeds some time as high as 35 miles an hour. We were lucky, we only had 3 flat tires, and only two welding jobs, one on our trailer tongue, and one on the jeep hitch. Those were the days!!!!
  • Harry A. Reid, taken 1918 US-Army (17 KB)
    Harry in Army uniform, Camp Greenleaf, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.. On 16 Dec. 1918 he was honorably discharged from the Army Medical Department Dental Co. #1, with the rank of Private. He received a bronze Victory Button. On 02 May 1922 Dad received a War Department letter addressed to 1st Lieut. Harry Asa Reid, Officers Reserve Corps, giving him a new rank and serial number 0-117504.

    This is one of only two known photo of Mary F. (Gibson) and Harry A. Reid, it was taken about 1924 in Washington, Iowa. I received this copy from my cousin Frederick E. Reid Jr. in 1994, he found it amoung his mother's things. Dad and Mom were devorced in Chicago, IL, 1933.
