Notes for Lillian Ruth Paulson: Lillian's funeral card read: "Lillian Ruth Paulsen Taylor was born April 23, 1904, near Badger, South Dakota, to Andrew and Helena Marie (Paulsen) Paulsen. She died Thursday morning, July 11, 1985, at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 19 days. Mrs. Taylor farmed with her first husband, Luke Uzell, near Badger from 1924 until 1948. He died in 1948. She worked in sales for J.C. Penney, Inc. in Brookings from 1949 until 1969. On November 26, 1969, she married Charles A. Tayor Jr. in Brookings. She was a member of First Church of God, Women of Church of God, Ki-Wives International, Senior Citizens, and the Brookings Hospital Auxiliary, for which she at one time operated the gift cart. Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Taylor Jr. of Brookings; a step-son, David C. Taylor, of Seattle, Washington; step-daughter, Betty C. Schitoskey and step-son-in-law, Frank Schitoskey, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three step=grandchildren; and two sister: Bernice Cox of Castlewood, South Dakota and Mrs. S.T. Notes for Bernice Anine Paulson: Bernice Paulson spent her early years and received her education at Badger, South Dakota. She later graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, SD, in 1928. Bernice received her two-year teaching degree from General Beadle College in Madison, SD. She taught rural schools in Brookings and Kingsbury Counties from 1931 to 1936. Bernice was united in marriage to Roy Cox on December 24, 1937, in Prescott, Arizona. After their marriage they lived near Flagstaff, AZ, where she was employed as a bookkeeper at Sears. They moved to South Dakota in 1945 and farmed near Doland until moving to a farm in Florence Township near Castlewood, SD, in 1951. They retired from farming in 1979. Roy passed away on October 27, 1984, and Bernice continued to live on the farm In the fall of 1997, she moved to the Jenkins Methodist Home in Watertown, SD. Bernice Cox died on Sunday, January 25, 1998, at the Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. She was 87 years, 2 months, and 14 days old. Bernice was a member of the Morningside Community Church in Brookings, SD, and enjoyed playing bridge and going to the Senior Center to visit friends. She had a great appreciation for family and enjoyed communicating her vast knowledge and memory of family history with her relatives. Grateful for having shared her life are 10 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Art, and three sisters, Emma, Edith, and Lillian |
