Notes for Tosten Knudsen Axness: There is one Axness left in Norway, Magnus, who is descended from the first wife of Great Great Grandfather Knud Pedersen Axness and Kari Oraker.
Thorsten Knudson Axness and Maria Meiningen Simley Axness and their children moved to the USA in April 1868 landing in Quebec, Canada on June 10th. They arrived in Black Earth, Wkisconsin on the 24th of June. They resided their nearly ten years in Dane County, Wisconsin. They moved at the end of March 1878 to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota and arrived on April 1. They settled on a quarter section in the town of Lisbon. I quote from a handwritten page. I'm not sure who wrote it. "Thorsten K. Axness was born in North Aurdal, Valdres, Norway, Europe on Jan. 2nd, 1845 at the gaard (family estate)Axness. His parents were:Knud Axness and wife, Kari (born Orager). His grandfather was Peder Axness whose wife was Frk. Granheim sister of Toillef Grandheim from the family estate of North Grandheim. His aunt Guri Viste. Through her Peder Axness was related to Gulbrand Granheim or Granum the wealthiest man in his district or Bygd. Gullik Gullikson Granum also T.K. Axness' ancestor. Sergeant Elling Ulness was a full cousin to T.K. Axness'grandmother; Gudmond Quissel was a double cousin of T.K. Axness on his mother's side. So we find the family names in connection by blood; Quill or Quissel, Axness, Viste; Granum; Orager; Ulness and Ringsacker, who was a top ranking officer in the Norwegian army. At the age of 17 years Thorsten K. Axness had already attained the rank of Sergeant this being the youngest in the military school to attain that rank. He graduated in 1865. Father said his ancestry could be traced back to the musician and composer Edward Grieg; but of course this was not accomplished. The year of his birth also is lacking in regard to the individual whose names are given in the data I can find............"
