Fred Becker (b. March 17, 1874, d. September 22, 1948)
Notes for Fred Becker:
He was said to be the first 'White Man" to ride to the top of Kellogg Peak on horseback..He was cremated, as was wife Helen their ashes mixed together and spread over the top of the hill.
Previous to coming to the Bunker Hill and Sullivan Mine in Kellogg, Idaho..he wrote he worked on the WH Vanderbilt Yacht "Alfrada" in New York City. He was also supposed to have fought in the Spanish American War, perhaps for the US Navy under a assumed name. After the War he was also supposed to have fought in the Boxer Rebellion. He is said to have sustained a month laceration,causing a scar, and so wore a mustache the rest of his life. These above facts still need to be researched.
From the time books of the Bunker Hill Mine, he worked as a miner from about 1903 on. He was a miner and made $3.00 - $ 4.75 / shift.
According to pictures, Fred studied sailing in Germany on the HMS Moltke, when a very young man.Believed it to have been in Hamburg.
According to 1910 census.Fred owned his own home free and clear..he was working in a blacksmith shop.
