1. JACOB W.¹ THARP was born 1744 in North of England, and died July 20, 1793 in Fayette County, PA. He married PHOEBE CRAWFORD February 04, 1767 in New Providence Presby Church, NJ, daughter of WILLIAM CRAWFORD. She was born May 30, 1750 in New Providence, Union, NJ, and died September 10, 1827 in Peoria, IL ¹.

Notes for JACOB W. THARP:
Exact location of his birthplace in unknown. as is the exact date of his emigration to the American colonies. It is most likely that he emigrated with family in sometime in the late 1740's or early 1750's. In 1758 when Jacob was 14, he is listed as a subscriber of the Rockaway Church, in what is now Morris county, NJ. Jacob was married in New Providence in what was then Morris county, now Union County, NJ. Jacob was 22, Phoebe was 17. Jqacob W. served in the Revolutionary Was with the Morris County NJ Militia. In a Revolutionary Wat Census of NJ inhabitants ( an index based on rateables, Jacob was listed as having mustered out in 1778 at the age of 34. Other Tharps listed in this census were Isaac, Isaih, James, John, John Jr..., Jonathon, Joseph, Laurence and Reuben. Jacob W. owned property in Pequannock, which is in the northern part of Morris County, NJ. He died in PA but his exact place of death and burial are unknown.
