Includes NotesMarriage Notes for William Francis Hearlihey and Hannah Maria Johnson:
Excerpt from Bill Herlihy's History of Hannah Maria Johnson Herlihy, Sept. 5, 1987, Page 5:

" In Uncle Sam's letters, he does not mention that he has ever met Hannah's future husband. Since he shipped out in November 1897, she probably met him in December 1897, or in 1898 or 1899. My guess is that they married in 1899.
In 1896 Uncle Alf lived on Third Ave. On Sept. 3, 1900, William and Hannah Herlihy lived at 2093 Third Ave. in Manhattan. This is the date and address where their only son, Francis William Herlihy, was born. A doctor signed the birth certificate, so it is likely he made a house call and the delivery...
It is not known where the Herlihy family moved from 2093 Third Ave....In June 1908 they lived on Brooke Ave. in the Bronx. From June 1908 to January 1910 they lived in Whitestone, LI, Queens. From 1908-1909 their son attended Public School 79 in Whitestone. Hanna's son attended St. Lukes Parochial School from 1909-1915, and St. Agnes Academy (a high school) from 1915-1919. Both of these Catholic schools were in College Point, not far from Ft. Totten.
William and Hannah raised their son a Catholic.... William Herlihy was either hired as, or eventually became the Post Plumber at Ft. Totten. He started work there about 1908-1910...Hannah, her husband, and son lived in quarters on the post.....Francis William Herlihy married July 14, 1929 and moved to 144-25 Third Ave., Flushing, NY. Hannah and her husband lived at Ft. Totten until William Herlihy passed away from a sudden heart attack on Oct. 14, 1931."
Page 13: " Later in 1929 the stock market crashed. Hannah and her husband lost $75,000 in stocks of inflated value. George Washington Kerr (husband of Lillian Curtin Kerr, William Herlihy's niece) helped the family invest in the stock market. He fared no better..."

Excerpt from Bill Herlihy's 10 Aug 01 History of Hannah Maria Johnson Herlihy, p.14:

" Hannah kept a few dimes twisted together in the corner of a hankie. If I just absolutely had to have a new comic book right away, she would give me a dime. This would have been in the 1940's.
She would save the small slivers of the bars of Lifebuoy soap. They were kept in a jar with water, and she used them in her bath water.
She passed the day in the kitchen, cooking or baking, and was an excellent cook. I remember her peanut butter cookies, which were pressed thin with a fork...
When irritated or in a wistful mood, she would say, 'Someday my ship will come in!' This quite English saying came about because England was a maritime power. It means, "some day I'll be rich."
She taught me an English children's riddle 'Two O's, two N's, an L and a D, Put them together and spell them for me. The answer is London.'
