Doty, Beckwith, Elwell, Fredenburgh, Hanson, Heilicus, Huff, Kinder, Livermore, McGinty, Merkel, Post, Phillips, Showers, Stahl.
Charles DOTY was born in Lyme, Jefferson Co., NY on April 18, 1840. His father's name was John B. Doty. He had at least one brother whose name was William. He served in Company H, 10th Regiment, NY Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. After he was widowed, he married Sylvia Jane FREDENBURGH of Brownville, NY in August, 1871. In 1872, he moved to Ohio, Bureau Co., IL where he died in 1923 at the age of 83. Charles and Sylvia had three daughters, Adeline (DOTY) WAND buried in Onarga, IL, Hannah (DOTY) MCGINTY buried in Ohio, IL, and Sylvia.
Henry S. FREDENBURGH was born abt. 1803 in Ulster Co., NY. He married Annie SHOWERS b. 1805, also of Ulster Co. In 1837, the family moved to Brownville, Jefferson Co., NY. The children listed in the 1850 census are Elias, Mary, John, David, Sylvia, James C., Eliza, and George.
Michael SHOWERS m. Catherine HEILICUS. They may have resided in Greene Co., NY prior to moving to Ulster Co. One of their children was Anna or Annie SHOWERS.
Daniel MCGINTY m. Catherine HUFF. They were residing in Lee Co.IL in 1864. They have at least two children, Elias MCGINTY b. 1864 and Leonard MCGINTY b. 1866. Elias moved to central Iowa and was living in Des Moines by 1900. He later moved to Grinnell, Iowa where he died in 1920.
William ELWELL was born in Coldwater, Branch Co., MI on May 1, 1837. His family moved to LaSalle Co., IL when he was a young boy. He married Alfreda J. PHILLIPS in Earlville, LaSalle Co., IL on February 22, 1864. William's parents had been born in MA and Alfreda's parents had been born in PA. They moved to Charles City, IA in 1871 and moved to Austin, MN abt 1899.
George STAHL b in Geneva, Ontario Co., NY in 1904 was placed in the Children's Aid Society of NY on December 6, 1909. Parents were Edna (LIVERMORE)STAHL of Geneva, Ontario Co., NY and Edward L. STAHL of Fayette, Seneca Co., NY. Grandparents were Sarah (BECKWITH) LIVERMORE, Clarence LIVERMORE, and William A. and Irene Isabel(RITTER) STAHL. Edward's other siblings were Martha S. Stahl, Charles Perry Stahl, and Benjamin H. Stahl. George was adopted by Julia MERKEL of Story City, Story Co., IA
Carl MERKEL was born in Sparresholm, Denmark. His father, Andreas Christian MERKEL, was a cooper as was Carl. Carl's wife, Ane Marie RASMUSSEN, was the daughter of a blacksmith named Peter RASMUSSEN. Carl, Ane Marie, and their two daughters emigrated to the United States in the spring of 1869 and settled in Iowa.
Edwin POST b. in Ohio, m. Martha KINDER and was living in Vernon County, Wisconsin in 1880. Their daughter Rosey Elzina (Post) m. Carl Lewis Hanson, the son of Andrew and Martha (Christianson) Hanson. Andrew and Martha were married in 1877 in Portage, WI. They moved to Ellsworth, WI and later resided in Stratford, SD until their deaths. Andrew and Martha had both emigrated from Denmark prior to their marriage.
I am interested in any information on these families and am willing to share information which I have as well.
