From “ The History of Noble County The Fogle family were natives of Virginia but came to Noble Township, Noble County, Ohio from Washington County, PA. Three brothers, Jacob, Michael and Peter who settled in the same neighborhood. Peter came about 1818 (Jacob and Michael about 1816) and was the first Justice of the Peace in the township and held office for 20 years. He died in 1875 at 89 years old. The Fogle borthers were all married before they came to Ohio. Jacob married Mary Merry Caldwell and had son Jacob. Peter married twice, first to Elizabeth Salliday (children Mary, Eliza, Sarah and Margaret) and second wife Phebe Stevens (children Rachael who married a Rucker, John, Lucretia, Anna, Annary, James , George, and Peter). Elijah Fogle was born in Noble Township in 1842. In 1861, he fought with the 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and fought at Fort Donelson and Pittsburg Landing. In 1862, he was honorably discharged. In 1865, he married Maria Oliver of Center Township. Susannah McKee married an Ogle. Martha McKee also married an Ogle. Samuel Noble married Miranda Ackley. Samuel Pryor owned personal property in Elk Township, Noble County, Ohio He was the father of Elijah, John, Henry, William, Mary, Nancy, Sarah and Elizabeth. William died in 1886 at 68 years old. Isaac Pryor, father of Marg, Jane, Lila, Maria, John and Howard. Polly Davis married Emmanuel Hupp Annie Davis married Henry Pryor. William and David Crum of Elk Township, pioneer settlers of German descent. Father Adam Crum, a native of Germany, soldier in the Revolutionary War and wounded at Battle of Bunker Hill. At the end of the war, settled in PA, then came to Monroe County, Ohio in 1808. David married Mary Crow, daughter of Martin Crow. David had seven sons, George, James, Martin, Henry, William, Michael and David. George married Agatha Roe and their children were Peter D., J. Martin, William T., George I., Mary E., Louisa J. and Susan V. Henry had 4 sons, William, James, Philo and Henry Jr. Noble Lodge #563 instituted, Harriettsville, Ohio December 04, 1873. Edward Pyles was a charter member. Alfred Ogle was an early teacher. James Ogle was born in Ireland and his wife Ann Dixon was born in New York. James was an assessor of Morgan County for two terms. He fathered 10 children. Benjamin C. Ogle was a farmer and was born in 1827. 1883, owners of property in Enoch Township were John Armstrong, Obed Ackley, Samuel Craig, Jeffries Cunningham, Washington Cunningham, Ebenezer Cunningham, Hiram Hupp, Alexander Hupp, Henry Hupp, and Daniel Hupp. Rufus Merry settled on the place now occupied by his son Ambrose about 1818. His father Ambrose came to the county about the same time from New York. Rufus was a member of the Christian Church and died in 1877. Abraham Harper was born in Stock Township, Noble County in 1837. In 1857, he married Amanda Ackley, daughter of Obed Ackley. Their children were Columbus M. and Mary E. (married a Matheny) Sons of Temperance #234 instituted June 10, 1847. Michael Hendershot only charter member since 1847.
