I met Dorothy Ruth Kastendieck in the fall of 1944. She was an 18 year old student going to school at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. Dot was a petite young lady. “Dot” was the a.k.a. I bestowed on her only minutes after we met. I was a 19 year old soldier stationed at Camp Crowder Missouri near the town of Neosho and about 80 miles from Springfield. I was fortunate enough not to be shipped overseas for combat duty and we saw each other on the weekends. We were engaged and I was discharged from the army in May of 1946. We were married three months later on August 31, 1946. It was a short honeymoon at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, Texas and on to College Station where I re-enrolled at Texas A&M University to complete my Electrical Engineering degree. We enjoyed a wonderful life with a motto of “We’ll do it together”. After 55 beautiful years of togetherness Dot went to be with her Maker in eternity. |
