The Family dates from the 1700's in Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Information prior to 1800 is spotty at best. Family lore from the mid-1800's indicates the first of this line was a Hessian deserter however there is no hard data to support this. A Nicholas Ramstine is listed on a Hessian Deserter roll but no link to this man can be found. Jon. Henrich Ramstine from SE Pa. pre-dates the Revolution and may actually be the patriarch.The surnames included in this group are: Arbogast, Mertz, Specht, Batram, Shell, Stahl, Schmid, Hartenstine, Riegel, Ernest. |
