Do the Neviazhsky, Acharkan, Yudkovsky, and Broida Families Share Common Ancestry?
BACKGROUND: We must remember that cousins often married, and therefore, repeating name patterns in families might demonstrate these earlier connections.
· At least the Broida, Yudkovsky and Neviazhsky families seem to come from the same origins, because of the repeating first name patterns.
· All four families come from the same area - i.e., Rasein-Kelem-Shilal, in the early and mid-19th centuries.
· For example, the name combination Shalom Tuvia, the father of Barukh Broida who married Leah daughter of Avraham Yitzchak Neviazhsky, is given to descendants of the Neviazhsky family which do not descend from Barukh Broida. Moreover, nowhere in what we know is the Neviazhsky family's male ancestors do we see the name Shalom-Tuvia, so it is likely that one of the wives of the Neviazhsky ancestors might have been a sister to Shalom-Tuvia Broida, though we have no written or oral evidence to support this.
· As for the Yudkovsky and Neviazhsky families in the 1858 Rasein Uyezd Revision List, the name Shevel appears in both families, and this name is not common.
· As to the Acharkan and Neviazhsky families, both have the name Nachman. Again not a very common name. We now know of no common Neviazhsky ancestors, and seemingly out of nowhere, Hirsh Aaron son of Avraham Yitzchak Neviazhsky gives his their son the name Nachman, which is a very common name in the Acharkan family. Quite possibly, Avraham Yitzchak's wife might have been from the Acharkan family. We believe she was the daughter of Yitzchak Ha-Kohen, and that her name was Brayna. Brayna daughter of Nachman Acharkan was the wife of Shabati Leib Neviazhsky, seemingly the oldest son of Avraham Yitzchak Neviazhsky. Later, we believe that their family name was Beirakh. But there is also a tradition in the family that the name Acharkan came from someone named Asher Kohen. We must check to see if the Acharkans are Kohanim. That would make them more likely related to the Beirakhs, who are Kohanim.
· Aharon/Orel was a common name then, but not like Moshe, Yitzchak, Avraham, Hirsh etc. So there might be a common link between the Neviazhsky and Yudkovsky families because - the name Aharon/Orel is found in each, and each are originally from Rasein. And since cousins often married, we have a Yudkov(sky?)-Neviazhsky marriage (Aharon Yudkov married Jennie (Chiena/Sarah/Yenta?) Neviazhsky (Jennie was a daughter of Shabatai Leib and Brayna Acharkan Neviazhsky.)
· Other common names to Yukovsky and Neviazhsky: Tauba (born in 1819)- wife of Aizik ben Yudel Yudkovsky - There is a missing Neviazhsky daughter of Avraham Yitzchak (AYN) named Tauba - We know nothing about her. Could this be her? Her children are Devora, Yitzchak, Yosel, and Yudel. Yudel was her husband's father-in-law. None of the other children of AY Neviazhsky have children name Devora, 2 have Yitzchak, none have Yosel. It therefore seems unlikely that this Tauba was the unknown daughter of AYN.
· What about a Broida - Yudkovsky or Yudkovsky - Acharkan connection?
1. Broida unique names (children of Barukh Broida): Ber, Meir, Teme
2. Yudkovsky unique names (fmo Shlomo b. 1778): Velvel (Ze'ev), Orel, Yosel, Berel/Ber (2), Necha (3), Yenta, Chatzkel, Moshe, Yudel,
· Named from the wife of Avraham Yitzchak Neviazshky, or AYN's ancestors:
1. Rivka? - daughter of Leah; daughter of Teme bat Leah (Sarah Miriam Gordon); 1st daughter of Yosef (Sarah Rivka)
2. Sarah - daughter of Teme bat Leah, but this could be for she aunt, the 1st wife; 1st daughter of Yosef (Sarah Rivka);
