He married JULIANNA SITZ January 30, 1878 in Strzalkowo, Posen, Prussia, daughter of MICHAEL SITZ and ANNA FRISKE. She was born May 27, 1857 in Krakawo, Russia, and died May 03, 1933 in Rosebud, TX.

The Kaulfus family was an immigrant family from Prov. of Poznan, Prussia, Germany. In 1880, Friedrich Kaulfus and his brother-in-law, Julias Sitz, left their wives and young children in Germany and immigrated to the United States. They arrived at the port of Baltimor, Maryland in March 1880. They worked on an oyster ship to finance their trip trip to Texas. They settled in Welcome, TX in Austin County. Their wives and children arrived on November 7, 1881in Ellis Island, New York. Julianna Kaulfus and Ernestine Sitz were reunited with their husbands in 1882.

Mary died at Golden Years Nursing Home in Marlin, Texas. I remember going to visit her as a child. She could not speak English, only German. She lived with her daughter Elsa (my grandmother) until the day she went into the nursing home. Even though she could not speak English, she always understood what it was that I wanted.
