Notes for L
We often wondered how Lutie Waymon Rhodes got his name, which he never liked, and always went by L. W. or "Slim". In the course of researching the Callahans, a wealth of information was obtained from Dorothy (Mrs. Louis) Callahan Davis of Decatur, Alabama. L. W.'s grandmother was Louisa Elizabeth Livingston Callahan, and from this material it was learned that she was called "Lute E", so it can be reasonably assumed that this was the origin of L. W.'s name.
