Following his capture at Cassville GA on 20 May 1864 while in Company D 27th Ala Inf, Henry was sent to the Louisville Military Prison thence to Rock Island IL POW camp. After signing an Oath of Allegiance to the Union, he was enlisted into the U.S. Navy as a Landsman on the USS Phlox on 10 June 1864.
