Welcome to my genealogy page! I've been researching my family tree for almost ten years now, that is I started when I was eleven years old. I've always been very interested in history and, even as a young child, loved hearing stories about when my parents and grandparents were younger.
When I was about 16, I discovered a wonderful book that really helped to fill out my research. They Came to Phillip's Harbour by Aldon Carter had family trees for almost every family to come to our area. This book, in turn led me to another, Guysborough County Sketches and Essays by A. Jost. This book helped me to find out more about the general history of my area, and also contained some other genealogies which Carter had left out of his book.
Both books left me frustrated, however. Though they supplied me with immense knowledge of my father's family, the Rhynolds, there was almost no information about where my mother's family, the Dobsons, was from.
I searched the internet and books for any clue of where my Dobson roots came from until finally one day last year, I discovered a wonderful web page, not about Dobsons in some remote area with no direct connection to mine, but about Dobson's from the very community my mother was from. This page, I later found out, was the product of my cousin Betty.
Upon writing Betty, I was invited to join the Dobson Family History Group, which was at that time just starting to really get overly large. There is a realization in the group that all people in it are related, no matter how distantly. It really feels like a family to me. I'm now also a member of the Guysborough County Mailing List offered from Rootsweb.
If anyone has any questions or requests, I'm more than happy to share my information with those who email me.
