The Roland Povall Rhyne Home Page

Updated September 6, 2000

I am researching the Robert Povall Family from Henrico County, Virginia. Robert was the first of the name to arrive in that colony prior to 1680. He was born in St. Martin In the Fields, England in 1650. In 1680 he married Elizabeth Hooker, who was from Malvern Hill, England, and shortly thereafter they had a son, Robert II. There is strong evidence from records extant in Virginia that Elizabeth Hooker was the daughter and only heir of Lord Hooker of England whose estate was named Malvern Hill. Elizabeth and Robert were required to return to England and re-marry there in order for her to acquire her inheritance. They did this in 1683 and there are court records in England attesting to it. She leased the estate, they returned to Virginia and purchased an estate in Henrico County which they named Malvern Hill.
I am very much interested in researching their ancestors in England as far back as possible.

I have the male line from Robert to my grandfather, Roland Austin Povall of Mississippi and all of his decendants thereafter. Also have the names of the wives and children of the various Povalls in this male line.

I am also interested in the decendants of the siblings of this male line mentioned above.

Any information will be greatly appreciated and I will certainly be willing to share any information that I have.
