"Another surviving record names six men assumed to be Samuel Henrys sons. in an 1801 Carter County, TN deed James, Samuel, William, Hugh, John and Ezekiel Henry executed the sale of the last 100 acres of Samuel Henry, Sr.s North Carolina Land Grant. Samuel and these men owned neighboring property and are found together in court minutes of early Washington County, North Carolina. After leaving the Watagua area these brothers often lived as neighbors and are located together in court deeds and other legal documents. in one Rhea County, TN record John Henry names William as his brother. Samuel1 Henry. The traditional date used for the birth of Samuel Henry, Sr. is about 1728 to 1730, though no document exists to prove when he was born. He may have been born in Scotland, Ireland, Pennsylvania or Virginia and died, perhaps, about 1797 in Carter or Washington County, TN. He married Rachel Unknown, who may have died by 1801.

According to Aurelia Cate Dawson, a descendant of Hugh Henry, there was a family tradition that an old man - Henry with five or six sons settled in one of the upper counties of present East TN in the early settlement of this country and that they were the progenitors of the East TN Henrys. Early TN records proved that Samuel Henry, his wife, Rachel, and at least six of his sons, William, James, Hugh, John, Samuel, Jr. and Ezekiel, settled in the Watagua River Valley of what is now the Johnson City area of Eastern TN by about 1775. They are an official First Family of TN.
