In the name of God Amen - I John Langston of South Carolina, an unworthy member of the Church being through the abundant mercy and goodness of God, tho weak in body, yet of a sound and perfect understanding and memory, do constit ute this my last Will and Testament and desireth may be received by all as such imprimes. I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my maker beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it through the all sufficient merits and meditation of my most compassionate redeemer Jesus Christ who gave himself to be an at tonement for my sins and is able to save to the uttermost all that come to hi m seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them and who I trust will not reject me a returning pentinent sinner when I come to him for mercy in this hope and confidence I tender up my soul with comfort humbly beseeching the most blessed and glorious Trinity one God most Holy most merciful and Glorious to prepare for the time of my dissolution and then to take me to himself in that peace and rest and incomparable felinity which he has prepared for all that love and hear his Holy name Amen. The father was born about 1740, and his will is filed in 1788 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The will lists my eldest son, Jechonias Jr., my second son, Asa and James. He also had a daughter known to us by the name of Mary Ann who married Thomas Edwards in the early 1790's. We know that this Jechonias was married twice.Jechonias' grandfather was John Langston who was born about 1710 in either Virginia or North Carolina. John died sometime between 1782 and 1790. His will was dated March 1, 1782, proven Nov. 11, 1790. His first wife was Agnes Mangham, his second wife Elizabeth (Persons? or Parsons?). We do not know which of the wives was Jechonias' grandmother.
