1871 Applied for pension

Alexander's pension record: Alexander's full name was Alexander
Gordon Young George. He signed a marriage bond in Floyd County, KY, on
July 1, 1819, with John May for a proposed marriage with Betsy May. He
died living on Tom's Creek in Johnson County, KY, on May 30, 1873. He
had applied for (in 1851) and received a grant of 80 acres on a bounty
land warrant, but had disposed of the property. In 1855, he applied for
an additional grant of bounty land (which he also apparently received).
In 1871 he applied for a soldier's Pension, and was granted $8 per
month. In 1878, his widow, Elizabeth (May) George applied for and was
granted an $8 per month pension.

case submitted to court.

Patty,

Here is some information taken from notes my father made on Nov 23,
1940. He was talking with Sarah Chandler Lyons b. 4 Dec 1860,
granddaughter of Alexander George and Susan Elizabeth "Betsy" May:

Children of Alexander and Betsy: Wilson "Wilse", b. 1788; Robert;
John; James; Emaline (Sarah's mother) b. 1838; Elias; Thomas; Albert;
and Susanne, died at age 19. Elias, Thomas and Albert were in the Union
Army during the Civil War. James had children Nathan, Jesse, Elias and
Alex.

Alexander died in 1873 at age 85. He is burried on the Rockhouse Fork
of Blaine on the Isaac Chandler farm at Chandlersville Post Office.

Alexander had been married before, and his wife and child died. He was
in the War of 1812. After the War, he went to South Carolina where he
stayed for one year. Alexander and his mother, Jennie Gordon, sold the
homeplace in SC and moved on the river near Prestonsburg.

Jennie Gordon came from Ireland. Her mother and father died, and her
grandparents brought her to America. Jennie had an aunt Nancy Gordon
who married Alexander Young who was in the Rev. War.

Most of this information seems to be accurate, from what we have
learned.
