Notes for G
EORGE RICHARDS:
A Cambria County researcher, who was researching the oldest families in Cambria County, had provided the Obit for George's son, Emanuel Richards. This man also suggested the Cambria County Biographical and Portrait Cyclopedia of Cambria County for the family of this Emanuel. Based on the information found to date, I am certain that this George Richards is my GGGreat Grandfather.
The following is the information found on George Richards and his offspring.

Naturalization of George Richards filed in Clearfield Co. Pa, state the following:
George Richards arrived in the United States March 29, 1828. Filed for citizenship December 4, 1832, and granted Sept. 4, 1838. [Source: Clearfield Co. Clerk of Courts.]
The closest Record I could find for a George Richards that came into the country close to that time was March 11,1829 from London, on the ship Corinthian and lists him as a Gardiner.
* Author's note: On the document attached to the Naturalization papers, which is the page of the court docket, it states that the place of Nativity was Ireland. This is the only record to date to which George Richards himself provided the information. Obviously he should have known his place of birth. All the dates correspond with another document previously received and the signature matches. Although, we must add that on all the census records containg George Richards children, when asked where their father was born they responded with England.

Along with the published article in the Biographical and Portrait Cyclopedia of Cambria County this is what was written regarding George Richards:
"Native of England and emigrated to America about 1830 or 1831 and located at Carthouse, Clearfield County, Pa. Married Charlotta Bellman, daughter of Jacob Bellman." [According to the records of Naturalization, this time line is incorrect.]

Petition in the Orphans Court
On the 28th day of Aug. 1871 Charlotte Bellman filed petition in the Orphans Court of Cambria County to divide the land between herself and her children. The land is described in territory and 433 acres and which land had several coal banks opened thereon at the death of said George Richards. The children are listed as follows: John Richards, Geroge B. Richards, Mary Anne married to Jacob Burg, Sarah Jane married to Daniel Spangler, Malinda married to Isaiah Haines, Hannah married to Perry Harkins, and Emanuel Richards. Charlotte was to have one equal third part of the estate. And to the children the remaining two-thirds were divided up evenly among the seven children.

Notes for C
HARLOTTE BELLMAN:
Charlotta Bellman was the daughter of Jacob and Charlotte Bellman of Tioga County Pennsylvania. Charlotte married George Richards Abt. 1833 to which marriage produced seven children. It is thought by some that Charlotte had three more children after the death of George Richards. Those three children were born out of wed lock to the best of our knowledge. Of those three children, only one was recognized by Joseph Miller to be his daughter. That child was Sevilla Miller, whose mother was Charlotte Bellman Richards.

Daughter, Sevilla Miller, can be found in the 1860 census with her half-brother John Richards. Perhaps David Richards was also a child of Charlotta and Joseph Miller? He was nine months old when the census was taken, but his father had died in 1846. Joseph Miller did "recognize" Sevilla as his child because she was given the name Miller and she is listed in his Will.

In the 1850 Census, White Twp., Cambria County, Pa:
Miller, Joseph, age 39 farmer
Meany? age 13
Margaret age 11
Peter, age 9
George, age 7
Sarah, age 4
Richards, Charlotta, age 36 Both parents born in PA
Sarah J., age 8
Melinda, age 6
David, age 9 mths. (Raises the question, whose son was David, George Richards died in 1846.)

In 1860, Gulich Twp. Clearfield Co. Pa
Charlotta was living with her daughter Sarah Jane, who at that time was married to Daniel Spangler:
Daniel Spangler age 25
Sarah age 20 (Sarah was age 18 in the 1850 census)
Charlotte Richards age 50 ( Charlotta was age 36 in the 1850 Census)
Elizabeth C. Bellman-[ thought to be Charlotte's daughter, father unknown).

[I have the copy to this petition if any one would like a copy.]

In 1880, she was living with a daughter, Mary E. and her husband Henry Stine age 31; Mary C. age 28; Mary C. age 1; and Charlotte Richards age 67. This is from the 1880 Logan Township, Blair County, PA census.

1900 Census:
Dixon, Josiah age 50
Elizabeth wife, age 48 and one child whose name is unknown;
David I. Dixon, son age 1
Charlotta Richards mother-in-law age 86
Josiah and Elizabeth had been married 16 years
Elizabeth was the mother of 6 children, only 3 of whom were still living. Josiah, Elizabeth and the first child are shown on the bottom of a page, which is very difficult to read. Elizabeth's husband's name was actually Isaiah Dixon, but spelled in this census record as Josiah.

According to Charlotte's son Emanuel's obit, he had two half-sisters surviving him named Mrs. Daniel Hollen and Mrs. John Dixon. We now know that Mrs. Daniel Hollen was Elizabeth and suspect that Mrs. John Dixon was Sevilla Miller. They were probably daughters Charlotte had after George Richards' death, making them half-sisters to Emanuel.

  Notes for HANNAH RICHARDS:
In the Biographical & Portrait Cyclopedia of Cambria County Pennsylvania page 55

Hannah is listed as the child of George Richards and Charlotta Bellman. This was written in 1896 and Hannah Richards married to Perrie Harkins was listed as deceased.

She is found in the 1850 Census, for White Township, Cambria County, PA, living with her sister Mary Ann:
BURGE, Jacob, head of household age 25; Mary Ann wife, age 17;
RICHARDS, Sarah age 13, sister in law
RICHARDS, Hannah age 12, sister in law
RICHARDS, Emanuel age 5, brother in law.

In the 1860 Census of Beccaria Twp. Clearfield County, Hannah 18 is living with Perry Harkins 22 in a residence next to Hannah's brother John Richards.

Obviously one of these census is off in ages. For if Hannah was indeed 12 years of age in 1850 then she would have been 22 years of age in 1860.

  Notes for PERRY HARKINS:
Darlene Pyeatt gave the information on Perrie and parents.

  Notes for GEORGE B. RICHARDS:
Source: Biographical and Portrait Cyclopedia, Cambria County Pennsylvania Genealogy. Page 54 and 55.
Captain George B. Richards, a farmer of Reade township, this county, is a son of George and Charlotta (Bellman) Richards, and was born at Allegheny Ore bank, Huntingdon county, now Blair county, Pennsylvania March 13,1838.
His father, George Richards, was a native of England, and emigrated to America about 1830 or 1831, and located at Carthouse, Clearfield county, Pennsylvania. While in his own country, he learned the trade of a stone-mason, and acquired considerable knowledge of mineralogy, and followed this pursuit as a means of gaining a livelihood of his adopted county. From Coalport, Clearfield county. His residence here was not permanent, and he soon returned to Allegheny Ore Bank. He finally located at Lloydsville, at that time called Richards Coal bank, this county, where he died in October, 1846.
He was a member of the old line Whig party, and took a normal interest in all political affairs. In religious faith he was an ardent member of the Lutheran Church.
His marriage with Charlotta Bellman, a daughter of Jacob Bellman, of Tioga county, Pennsylvania, resulted in the birth of seven children, three sons and four daughters: Mary Ann, deceased, who was the wife of Jacob Burge; John, a veterinary surgeon of Blair county, Pennsylvania; George B; Sarah Jane, wife of James Bowman, a blacksmith, of Allmansville, Clearfield county; Hannah, deceased, who was the wife of Perrie Harkins; Malinda, deceased, who was the wife of Isaac Haines, and Emanuel of Madera, Clearfield county.
George B. Richards was educated in the common schools of Cambria and Blair counties, and, prior to the Civil War, earned a comfortable living as a day laborer. When the crisis of civil war threatened the dismemberment of our Union, he was one of the first 75,000 volunteers to respond to President Lincoln's call for troops. April 21,1861, he enlisted in company "D," Fourteenth regiment, Pennsylvania Militia infantry, and served four months. September 14, 1861, he re-enlisted in company "D," Fifty-third regiment, Pennsylvania infantry, and was appointed first corporal, but was soon raised to the rank of sergeant, and again first sergeant. He received his discharge in December, 1863, and re-enlisted the same month in his former company, where he was promoted to the office of first lieutenant. His career was one of advancement; his services in behalf of his country received due recognition, and he was again promoted; this time he was raised to the rank of captain. His regiment belonged to the Army of the Potomac, and in all the engagements in which he participated the only injury he received was while at Savage Station; he suffered a sunstroke, which impaired his left elbow, and rendered him a cripple for life.
After receiving his discharge from the military service, July 10,1865, he purchased a farm in Reade township, this county, on which he located in August, 1865, where he has since been actively engaged in agricultural pursuits.
He is a member of David Truxel Post, 421, G.A.R., at Glasgow, a member of Washington Camp, No.56, P.O.S. of A., of Glasgow, and of the agricultural order of the Grange at Mount Pleasant, Clearfield county, Pennsylvania. In politics he affiliates with the Republican party, and has filled some of the local offices.
His marriage with Susan E. Beers, a daughter of John Beers, a carpenter and farmer (who served as a volunteer in the war with Mexico), near Fallen Timbers, this county, was celebrated March 30,1865.***Note, no children listed.****

George B. Richards is listed on the Plaque # 3 as a Captain on the Ebensburg War Memorial.

March 30th, 1865 Susan E. Beers married George B. Richards they resided in what was known as Reade Twp., Cambria County,Pa. on a farm that George had purchased. Susan was approximately 14 yrs old when she married the 26 year old George B. Richards.
