Jacob Burge gave this account in the case for pension of Capt. George B. Richards:
We were on the retreat from in front of Richmond to Harrison landing and claimant was with the Company at the time. I believe heart disease was the result of sunstroke as I knew claimant long before he went to the Army, worked with him and for him the winter of 1860 knew him to be strong able able bodied man saw him immediately after sunstroke knew him having shortness of breath there after. Have seen him at least once in every six months since the war and know that he is still affected with shortness of breath. I have my belief on the facts above stated also by self experience being sunstroke my self and experiencing the same results. Jacob made his mark X which ends the document.
