This is my great-grandmother, mother of Chester Earl Bard, and grandmother of Joseph Allen Bard. Ella (as she preferred to be called) was the daughter of John W. and Jane Doty McKee. She was born in Iowa, but lived most of her life in Illinois. She bore nine children, only five of which lived to adulthood. As a young child I remember visiting at Grandma Starkey's farm in Iroquois County, IL. Ella lived her last years in Evansville, IN, with her daughter Golda. Ella is buried next to her first husband Joseph Morris Bard in the GAR Cemetery in Watseka, IL.
