According to Oregon County, MO book, Ephrain lived in the area of Biggers, Arkansas, before coming to Oregon County. The Ku Klux Klan was big at that time and Ephrain became a member. His wife related related stories to their grandchildren abouthe KKK activities. At one time, Ephrain was ordered with a choice to ride to a neighbor's home because the neighbot had been mistreating his wife. They rode and, in no uncertain terms, told him to change his behavior or they would be back. The message was accepted and no return was necessary.
