Here is a man who marries a woman who has a illegitimate child. I feel that he either loved her or was actually Roy Roland Rich's father.

I've a card that was given to me by Uncle Jerome Porter. It once belonged to Mel vin Kimball Rich. It reads:

What I find interesting about Anna Blanche Porter is that she had a baby out of wedlock and then marries a man a year after Roy Roland Rich is born. His half sister Ellen was born a year and 9 month from his birthday. Was Melvin Kimball Rich really his father. Only God Knows.

Obituary:

Mrs. M. K. Rich passed away at the Groton hospital yesterday, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. She had been ill for some time but it was not until Saturday evening that she was taken to the hospital. At that time she was in such condition and had been for some time in such condition that it seemed inadvisable to operate, and she died as above recorded. The Rich family came to Groton only last spring from Michigan, and since that time Mr. Rich had been employed on the Chris Lien cement gang.

Besides the husband, four small children are left to mourn the untimely end of their mother, all being under ten years of age.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet.

WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS NOTICE IS THAT IT ONLY MENTIONS 4 CHILDREN WHEN IN FACT THERE WHERE 5 AT THE TIME, ROY, ELLEN, EITHEL, WILLIAM, NILES. WHO WASN'T LIVING IN SOUTH DAKOTA AT THE TIME?

Notes for Niles Rich:
My dad & all the Porter cousin have never ever met this man. My Uncle Jerome Porter was able to give me information on him, but he really only met him a couple of times when he & Ethel Avis Rich were first married.

When visting Marvin James Rich on the 24th of October 1998 he said that Uncle Niles was crazy, he had a thing for uniforms, because of all the killing he did in the war. Which war is unknown, also he was trying to adopt a little girl, name unknown. Uncle Marvin remembers meeting him a few times......
