Land Records at Anne Arundel County Court House, Liber WL 2, page 237, dated 1702-1708, dee d states: "At the request of Joseph Darby and Rebecca, his wife, or Ann Arundel County, 1705 , it is recorded that the said Joseph and Rebecca, have given and do give unto their son, Sam uel Darby one young bay mare branded on teh near buttock with an horse shoe, one sow ear mark ed with a cross, etc.: and also to their son Josias one white fly bitten mare and a sow wit h the same ear marks, etc.

Joseph was Sheriff of Ann Arundel Co in 1703. In Nov. 1704, Joseph Darby and wife, with man y others petitioned for relief because of fire catastrophe in Annapolis. (AA Co Liber G p. 12 6, write of Edward Buford)
