There is a record dated 14 Mar 1810 showing where William Joseph Nettles of St. James Goose Creek, Charleston sold all his slaves to his nephew James Nettles for $1500.00. This sale was witnessed by Benjamin Nettles, his son and John Blackman. George and Elizabeth moved from Darlington County, South Carolina to Charleston County, South Carolina in 1775. Another possible Benajmin Nettles
Benjamin Nettles son of Zachariah Nettles of Camden then Fairfield, SC.
The earliest record I find on Benjamin Nettles in FL is that of the 1824 West Florida Land Claims where he is listed as having 10-12 acres of cultivated land.
By 1840, he is found in the census west of Escambia River, Escambia, FL. At this time he is listed with one son age 10-15 which I believe is Wyzrick Nettles, and one male age 60-70 which I think is off one category as he would have been abt 56 (working back from the 1850 census).
In 1844 he is referenced in the Pensacola Gazette in Oct & Nov under Election Inspectors.
In 1845 he can be found in the Escambia County Voters list in Precinct 4, J.A. Pringle's home.
In 1850 he is listed w/his wife, Mary who doesn't seem to quite fit in age. Perhaps she is a new wife??
Anyhow...she is age 53 and Benj is 66. Near them is son, Wyzrick Nettles and wife, Ann. Both Wyzrick and Ann are age 20, he was b. in FL and she was b. in AL.
