1.JEAN DE1 LA CHAUMETTE was born Abt. 1644 in Rochechouart Poitou Province, France, and died 1723 in Prince William County, Virginia.He married ELIZABETH BOURGEOIS 29 Sep 1695 in Church for French Protestants London England.She was born Abt. 1672 in Paris France, and died 1715 in Martinique, French West Indies.

On Sunday, 19 Oct 1653, the Protestants assembled as usual, at the church for prayers.When Seigneur Pompadour, learned of this he went directly to the house of Jean De La Chaumette, where he encountered, Theodore de la Chaumette, a minister and struck him three blows, with his sword.Theodore, managed toescape with his life.He was a pastor at Marinques, in Auvergne and it was by chance thathe was visiting with his family, that day.On 26 August 1681, an official list was drawn up of those who were worshiping in Rochechouart. Clovis Palazy, pastor and Pierre de la Chaumette, apothecary were named, along with 41 others, seven of whom were, de la Chaumettes.On 20 Oct 1648, the Edict of Nantes, was revoked, resulting in renewed persecution of the Huguenots.Some paid the price of renouncing their faith, for the right to remain in their homes.Others chose exile.Pastor Clovis Palazy left for England, with a little group, in which there was three brothers, members of the de la Chamette family.Nothing more was ever heard from them.In "The Shumate Family"by Theodore - Friedrich Von Stauffenberg, 1964 , he states, on page 5, that Jean's father, Daniel, an Attorney and hismother, seems to have been a daughter of Joseph Fourgeaud.______________Legend Of The Death of Jean de la Chaumette:Shortly after Jean arrived with his three sons, at Elk RunJean bought a Tavern , the sight of which is said to be in the rear of the adjacent to the present store building, at Elk Run.One night a highwayman came in, demanded money, Jean refused and the highwaymankilled him._______________________________________________________The French Church of London (Old French Church), Waloon Church of London, on Threadneedle St., was founded, in 1550 and was Calvinist, until the 19th Century, not considered a Huguenot refugee camp.The church was aloof fromother French congregations.In 1689, William the third brought in the Toleration Act and thenon- conforming churches multiplied.In London, there were more conformists, (French Churches) in 1690 but by 1700, There were more Calvinist Congregations._______________________________________________________Virginia John Dilasumate, of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, leased 200 acres from William Allen, of Overwharton Parish, on 9 Oct 1723.He was dwelling on the land, beginning at a branch of Elk Run which divided the land that William Hogan lived on and the land of John Dilasumate and extending north , 72 degrees, east, 211 poles to a white oak, north 30 degrees, east, 204 poles, to three white oaks,then along the line which divided the land of Joseph Allen and the sail.Dilasumate, southwesterly,480 poles, to Elk Run, then, along the said run to the beginning.The lease period was 99 years and the payment was one ear of Indian corn, payed yearly to William Allen and his heirs, only if the same was demanded and also the rends and services, which became due to the Chief Lord or Lords of the fee or fees of the premises.
