The Riegels of Philadelphia moved from Berks County, PA about the turn of the 20th Century. Alfred Weaver (Weber) Riegel - b. 12-13-1866, d. 6-25-1942, owned a small printing shop in Reading, PA. His father, John Alfred Riegel, b.5-15-1831, d. 5-1-1910, was a school teacher, born in Bernville, PA and died in Philadelphia. Our Riegel line is decended from Johannes Cornelius Riegel, who came to this country in 1733 from Piesport, Duchy of Zweibrucken, (Germany) and is the immigrant parent of most Riegel decendents in this Country. Our Webers decend from Johann Heinrich and Elizabeth (nee Filbert) of Berks County. He arrived in this Country in 1749 and was a Captain in the Revolutionary War, who was celebrated in family reunions as late as one hundred years past his death in 1815. Both families include soldiers of the Revolution and later conflicts. Surnames include Bohn, Bowles, Brittingham, Cunius, Denston, Foster, Garner, Griesemer, Filbert, Knaub, Riegel, Townsend, Wiseman and Weber. |
