The Arthur Gilmore Maxwell Family

Updated February 13, 2007

Our family came to the United States from England, Scotland, and Germany. Included were Catholics, Quakers and Mennonites. The Maxwells(ScotsIrish) and Johnstons(Scotland) came eventually to Keokuk, Iowa. The Wahrers sailed from Germany up the Mississippi to Montrose, Iowa. The Thornburgs(Thornboroughs) were Catholics in England lost land as a result of religion, then became followers of John Fox (the Quaker founder), moved on to Ireland and then to the U.S. They lived in South Carolina and then moved to Iowa to fight against slavery.
The Newcomers(Germany), Mills, Lambs(Scotland) and Bartzs came as pioneers from the east and ended up eventually in Des Moines, Iowa. They are in a picture as some of the founders of Des Moines. Peter Newcomer lived on "Newcomer's Point". Some of the Newcomers went later to Lousiana and California. The Winterbergs came from Westphalia, Germany to Des Moines.
Need info on John Maxwell born in Carrick, Newmarket, Donegal, Ireland, and Elizabeth Johnston (his wife (born in Scotland)). PLEASE SEND YOUR UPDATED INFO TO ME, ESPECIALLY YOU NEWLY WEDS AND NEWLY BORN!
