General Directory section:- "Nicoll, William, lime merchant and shipowner, 53 Dock Street; h[ouse] 33." Street Directory section:- William Nicolls owner of 5 scooners "AGNES (schooner), Stephen (Master), WN (Owner or Agent), 51 tons, built 1838 HAVILAH (barque), Garthly (Master), WN (O or A), 471 tons, built 1868 LANCASTER (sch), Fleming (Master), WN (O or A), 74 tons, built 1843 MARGARET REID (sch), Holland (Master), WN (O or A), 94 tons, built 1848 WAVE (sch), Smith (Master), WN (O or A), 105 tons, built 1864" William Nicoll died on the 16th march 1889 after a brief illness at the aged 76, this proves wrong the age shown on the 1881 census, he wes well like and very respected in Dundee were he ran the business of ferrying Lime from the lime quarries to Holy Island.
