I am looking for links to my and my husband's relatives. My most distant ancestor so far was James Riley who came to Texas under a Mexican land grant before the revolution (1837 or 38). His wife's name, (2nd wife), was Harriet Yarbourouh. He was apparently born in Georgia-but came to Texas from Illinois. My grandfather's wife was Effie Agnes Spears. Her father, George Spears came to Texas from Van Buren AK-where he'd killed a man caught cheating at cards. His wife's name was Sarah Williams. She was a widow and I don't know her maiden name. However, my dad says her father was a "sea captain from the Isle of Gurnsey." My great grandmother's (Riley) maiden name was Lydia Hill. My great-great grandmother was Nancy Cherry. Her father was Joel Cherry and they came to Texas in 1841. I will record their other children at a later date. Nancy had an older sister named Rebecca who married a man named John Sheppard. My grandmother Nancy's oldest son was named John and later changed his name to Sheppard. He had a daughter named Loreatha who married a man named Henry. |
