* Rileys of south Arkansas*

Updated September 26, 2000

The Riley family first appeared in south Arkansas in the early 1800's.The earliest record I have found is the 1830 census, in which the the first known Patriach of the family appears( Joseph B. Riley).I have been told that he probable recieved a land warrant from his service in the war of 1812 and that he was from Virginia.There is also an old Riley Catholic cemetary located on what was known as the East Farm, but there are no Markers remaining as they were made of wood.It has been told over 100 years that Joes first family was started with a Cherokee women that he meet on her way from North Carolina to Oklahoma(The Trail of Tears),at what was known as the Arkansas post.From here my family decendacy started.my linage is as follows Joseph B. Riley( ? ),John Martin Riley(Polly Ann Stroope),Albert Jefferson Riley(Mary Ann Minyard),John Jefferson Riley(Leana Louisa St.Helena Robinson),John Elbert Riley(Verlie Vivian Malone),John Arnold Riley(Miriam Elizabeth Bridgett Tabor),John Scott Riley.

from my maternal side I am related to the Wards,Wingfields,Booseys.

I'M looking for any information to prove or disprove my linage and to find new information on the Rileys and other by other linages.
