George Rinehart came to Canada about 1865. Where he landed is not yet clear. The first record of George is found in Saint George Church records in Caverhill New Brunswick in 1869. George had two brothers and two sisters that came to North America from Ireland as well. It appears that the two sisters Mary and Margret Jane moved to Seattle Washington where there brother Joseph was living. Joseph had married Mary Miller in Caverhill New Brunswick Canada and had moved to Seattle sometime earlier. The second brother Henry had lived in Saint John New Brunswick but moved to the eastern United States around 1880. Henry had married a Catherine Prendergast and they had a daughter born to them on Christmas Eve 1879 in Saint John New Brunswick. There are a variety of spellings for the name Rinehart and each spelling appears to indicate a different place of origin. In researching the spelling RINEHART it appears to be most prominent in Sumiswald, Bern, Switzerland. There was a Rev. Peter Rinehart that immegrated to Ireland and settled in Wexford which is very close to where documented proof of our family can first be found. The earliest documented Rinehart was Stephen Rinehart who lived in the town of Listerlin in county Kilkenny. He was the father of George,Henry,Joseph.Mary and Margret listed above. Stephens children indicated that he spoke with a heavy accent which would indicate that Stephen was new to Ireland or had lived in a prodominately German speaking area of Ireland.Stephens place of origin is all conjecture and not based on documented fact. |
