The Iver Johannessen(1835-1906) and Hendrika Aronsdatter(1839-1906) Ring Family Tree. They lived on the Ring Farm in the Sakshaug Parish, Inderoy, Nord Trondelag, Norway.

Iver and Hendrika were the parents of the 10 Ring children, who all eventually ended up in America. Most in Goodhue County, Minnesota.


*I obtained a majority of my information from the book called "Ring" wrote by Richard Arland Thorud.

*The copies of family obituaries were obtained by Julie Seeley of Red Wing, Minnesota.

*Information on the Bergum Family was obtained from my aunt, Rita.

    My Grandma Ruth with two of her children, Richard (my father), and her youngest daughter, Rita.

    Grandma with her son Richard, and two of her daughters, Rita and Roxy. Richard is holding his son, from a second marriage, Lance Matthew Ring (1982). This was taken on a trip my sister and I made with my dad and Lance to Minnesota in August 1986. This is in Roxy's house.

    Lisbet Rasmusdatter Ring, mother of Hendrika Aronsdatter Ring. Iver and Hendrika purchased their Ring farm in Norway for Lisbet's husband Peter Pederson. Hendrika's father was Aron Davidsen Vordal. Lisbet and Aron never married.
  • Grandma Ruth Ring and grandaughters-July 1994 (26 KB)
    This was taken the last time my sister, Ruth and I visited our Grandma in Kenyon, MN. We made this trip from Montana in July 1994 to see her. She passed away about a week later. The quilt in this picture was her 80th birthday present, made by my Aunt Rita. It has squares in it with designs her family members put on them, especially for her.

    Wedding picture of John Iversen and Marthina Nelson Ring. They were married in Red Wing, MN on March 8, 1887. John immigrated to America in 1883. He settled in Northern Minnesota, first working as a hired hand for Gulbrand Nelson (1823-1901). He was married to Gulbrand's daughter Marthina. John and Gulbrand together, bought and ran several farms. John continued to run the original Nelson farm after Gulbrand's death, although he and Marthina had their own farm, called the John Ring Farm. John and Marthina had 9 children. One being my grandfather, John Matthew Ring. Both are buried in the Eidsvold Church Cemetery, also called the Ring Cemetery which is located on a portion of land that Gulbrand donated to the congregation.

The children include- Hilda Ring (1888-1907), Anna Ring (1890-1981), Joseph Ring (1893-1955), Fletcher Ring (1895-1963), Geneva Ring (1898-1974), George Ring (1900-1964), Frances Ring (1902-1998), John Ring (1906-1955), and Hannah Ring (1908). Hannah is the last surviving child of John and Marthina.

The children are, Kylend, Kenya, and Kayden. They belong to my sister. My children are Kashala, Shakala and Koalten. Her's are the one's with the red hair. Her youngest daughter was a small baby at the time, and wasen't in the picture.

    The obituary of my great-grandfather, Albin Louis Bergum. He passed away in August 1965. This was located and sent to me by a wonderful person in Minnesota (J.Seeley).

They include Bonnie Joy(1940), Roxanne Marie(1942), Richard Lance(1944)(this is my father), Rita Jane(1951), and Wendell Matthew(1953). John married my grandmother, Ruth, on Oct 1, 1938 in Minnesota. The family lived in Kenyon, MN. Unfortunately they were only together for 17 years, as John died in 1955 leaving his wife and young children.

She is buried in the Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery along with her husband Albin. Albin was born June 06, 1882, and passed away in August 1965 in Kenyon, MN.

  • Eidsvold Norwegian Methodist Church (105 KB)
    Gulbrand Nelson's Eidsvold Norwegian Methodist Church, built for only $1250 worth of lumber, on a plot of land belonging to Gulbrand. John Ring gave the money for the labor and paint, and Mary, his sister donated the altar furnishings and carpet. The dedication of the church was held on July 30, 1893. The church had an active life of just over 50 years.
