Served as first Lieutenant under Captain William Eckridge, whose company
was part of the Second Cherokee Mounted Volunteers and took part in the
battle of Pea Ridge.

Thomas Jefferson, son of Ambrose and Judith [Cochran] McGhee, married
Mar tha Hanna and they were they parents of: Samuel Albert, James M.,
Thomas Jeff erson Jr., Viola, Clero, Saladin C., Joseph Fox, and Quilliki
P. McGhee. Thom as Jefferson Sr., was the first Lieutenant of Company E of
the first Cherokee Mounted Volunteers in the Confedrated service. He was
elected Sheriff of Del aware District in 1867 and was elected Clerk of the
same District in 1880, 18 81, 1883, 1885, and 1889. A brilliant
interpreter and orator, he was one of t he most popular and progressive
citizens of Delaware District
