We are making the family tree of Ernst Ristow,my great grandfather who immigrated from Prussia, Germany to New York City,NY. Ernst married Matilda Jarmon from Baden. Ernst was a Civil War Veteran and suffered injury when a horse fell on him while leading an ammunition wagon in battle. He died on July 12, 1876 in NY City. Ernst wife preceeded him in death, orphaning his three children. Sons; Fred, Ernest, and daughter Tillie. His son, Ernest born 1865; Tillie born 1867, Fred born l869. All in NYC,NY. After Ernst died in 1876, the two boys were taken to The Five Points School Of Industry, Tillie's fate is unknown, The boys were placed on one of the "Orphan Trains" in 1879 and delivered to Shenandoah Iowa to W R Wood. Fred was found in the 1880 census with the Wood family, being adopted by them and living in Lincoln Nebraska. Sometime later Fred was found in the 1920 census living in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Jennie Fasnacht and had 4 children, Lourie T.,b.1872,Fred F.,b.1894,Raymond E.,b.1897 and my father Harry C., b.1902. My father was born in Kansas City, Kansas.
