I have just started the search for my personal lineage. My grandfather, Emmett (different spellings have been found), although born in Ohio, moved to the Mason City, Iowa area in his youth. At age 26, he moved to Edwardsport, Indiana to work for a local power company.

His father, John W. Rish, was the son of Catharine B. Rish who was born in Virginia. They moved to Auglaize County, Ohio. 1910 Ohio census records reveal that she, at 84 years of age, was "Head of Household" with son, John (56), and grandson, Emmit (15) living at home. It shows both father and son were born in Ohio. Emmit's mother's name was Minnie Heissee.

I know very little about my family as we didn't much discuss our family history. I do know that great-grandfather John W. was a finisher carpenter.

Well, no time like the present to get started. Of course, any useful information would be greatly appreciated.
