Notes for Lydia Paklehymer:
In a letter from Lloyd Minear, a descendant of Lydia Packleheimer, whom we met at church in Berkeley in the late 1940's, he wrote about the Minear lineage as follows:
"In the 1780-1800 period there appeared in Roanoke, Virginia from Maryland or North Carolina a group of four families;Abraham, John, Jacob and Andrew Picklehimer. As Abraham was the eldest, he might possibly have been the father of the other three. After 1800 the family moved westward and settled in different states.A John Picklehimer, possibly a son of one of the previously married family members settled in and died in 1844 in Bath County, Kentucky. He had been married twice and had 5 children. One of these children was Lydia Pickleheimer, born July 1, 1815 and died August 5, 1899."
In a genealogy report of Isaac Beckleheimer found on the web, Lydia's record appears with her last name spelled "Beckelhymer."Over Isaac's report the last names vary considerably; including Picklesymer, Beckel, Picklemymer, and many others. In that report Lydia's two marriages and all her children are correct. That report showed that Lydia's male ancestors were(1)John, (2)Jacob, and (3)Johan.
Lydia Packlehymer married William Minear (who had emigrated from St. George (West) Virginia). They moved to Van Buren County, Iowa where they sold land in 1839.
They went to Texas in 1843, as the child born in 1842 was born in Iowa and the next child born in 1844 was born in Texas.By 1851 they had 7 children, 6 girls and one boy.(Lloyd Minear, grandson of the only boy, wrote in 1982, "I could never determine whether Lydia and the Minears were Mormons before joining the Lyman Wight colony in 1852.It is possible as Van Buren County, Iowa is a short distance from Nauvoo, Illinois.A history note from Bandera County, TX states that Lydia and her sister Polly became Mormons in Illinois in the 1830's.
Lydia Packlehymer's husband, William Minear, was murdered in 1850 on a trip to buy horses.
Lydia and her children joined the Lyman Wight Colony and arrived with them in Bandera March 1, 1854.
Lydia's sister Polly lies in an unmarked grave near Lydia in the Bandera Cemetery.
