We are interested in contacting descendants of Philip Jacob RITER, born 1 Jun 1811 in Friedrichstal (Baden) Germany. He arrived in New York on 11 Apr 1835, lived in Philadelphia until about 1842 and removed to Buffalo NY. He and his wife Eva Margaretha LEHMANN reared a family of 10 sons: William Frederick, b. 1835; Philip Jr. b. 1837; Jacob Frederick b. 1838; Louis b. 1840 and John, b. 1841 [all b. Philadelphia]; Samuel b. 1843; Henry Washington, b. 1844; Robert Eli b. 1848, Charles Lawrence, b. 1852, and Frederick Lawrence b. 1854. We have traced the RITER family back to 1772 in Friedrichstal, when the earliest known ancestor, Johann Michael REUTER married Sophie Margareth DUPUIS on 5 May 1772.
The DUPUIS family were French Huguenots and can be traced back to Switzerland.
