I am new to this search for family, although I have wanted to do this for many years. There are so many mysteries in our family, but I guess all families have secrets! Now that I am one of the few seniors of the clan still living, I'm delving into the past, and hope to find some help out here in cyberspace. My paternal line names are FORBES on my grandmother's side and WINTERS on my grandfather's side. The Forbes family lived in San Francisco, and my grandmother's brother Richard Forbes built the old Fox Theater (at least his construction company did). Grandpa Forbes was a carpenter and at one time worked on the refurbishing of the royal palace in Hawaii. I understood the Forbes geneaology was traced backed to 16th century England, but Uncle Richard died leaving all such records to a wife who lost them. We have a full record of grandma Forbes' maternal antecedents back to Ireland. That name is McComb.
The Winters family are the ones now being researched as nothing is known except that George Henry Winters married Ellen B. Forbes , both of Fitzburg, Alameda County, California, on January 14, 1907 in Oakland, California. After marriage the couple lived on 81st Ave. in Fitzburg. Grandma left Winters after only a couple of months of marriage, and after that nothing is known about him by still living family members. Winters was a carpenter, too, and may have built the house on 81st Ave. just off of E. 14th St. Fitzburg is located between Oakland and Hayward, California.
I would gladly share any information I have with others.
