The top document in Walter's file is memo to file relating to a letter (August 12, 1964) from Mrs. Blake Thompson (daughter) of 120 7th St. W., Cornwall, Ontario.The memo states that Walter Bookhout died on August 7, 1964 at Montreal General Hospital.
Walter enlisted on April 10, 1916 (single) and also served as a Private & "Sapper" in the 154th Overseas Battalion.He served the duration of the war (England & France) and was discharged on August 26, 1919.He had a colorful service including a number of days "absent without leave."
His 1916 will states that he is single and that his father Albert Bookhout is alive and serving in the 154th Battalion too.His next of kin is Emmy or Amy Vandusen, Chesterville, Ontario - she is an Aunt.[It is likely this is the same Mrs. Vandusen who was the information on Margaret Bookhout's death registration, Walter's grandmother]Walter states his birth date as August 22, 1897 in Finch.He also only placed his "X" mark on the Attestation Papers.He was fair of complexion, 5 ' 5 " in height with light hair and blue eyes.
He also was diagnosed with flat feet and was not fit for "marches beyond six or seven miles..."He was admitted to hospital on June 6, 1919 with Gonorrhea but was later discharged as "cured" on July 14, 1919.
