My wife and I started researching her family background when we planned a birthday for her grandmother who was turning 98 on July 23, 1994. After asking questions of some of her relatives we went to the Latter Day Saints Family Research Library. We were able to trace her family on both her dad's and mother's side back several generations. We were given some family group sheets filled out by some relatives of hers in Arkansas. With dates on births and deaths we found many of her relations listed on the census's of various years. Some of the family names are; Ramsey, Foreman, Newman, Laird, Compton, Everett, Nixon, Shipman, Bailey, McCoy, Forbess, Barringer, Crawford, Roach, Hopper, Bond, Woods, Lively, Frye. I sent for my dad's application for a social security card which gives his father's name as, Thomas William Roach, and his mother as Maudie Frye. It was submitted from Blytheville, Arkansas. My father's Birthdate is listed as December 17, 1913. Together my wife and I have tried to verify every connection taking care not just to rely on hearsay. My father was Vernice Martin Roach, he was raised by an uncle in Arkansas till he married my mother Artinsey Hopper. I have been unable to get any further back on my fathers' side, not knowing the reason he was taken in by his uncle. I did find him listed on the 1920 census for Mississippi County, Canadian Township - Tomato Island No. 25. Microfilm roll number 1820073, sheet number 1886, Page 10-A 11-A. Dave Robertson is listed as head of household and Anna as wife.
