In 1896 the family moved to what is now the old Coatsworth Community, then known as Who'd Thought It, and settled on an Indian Lease. They built a big room and a dirt floor and one-half dug out for a kitchen. They then cleared the land and started farming.
On December 25, 1898, Dave married Clara Swain.Dave and Clara moved 4 miles west of the father's lease and leased land from the Hoetubby Indian Lease. At this home 2 children were born;Spencer, who died at the age of 2 and was laid to rest at the Wells Valley Cemetery and a daughter named Pearl.
The family next moved a short distance West to another Indian Lease. Here Lydia and Bryan were born. The next move for the family was west across the Delaware Creek where the children attended school at Nickel Hill.At this home place Ernest, Edna, David, and Charlie were born.
