Wise County Messenger January 18, 1890 Obituary
Died: On Wednesday morning, January 15, 1890, Mrs. Kittie Carpenter, Wife of N.M. Carpenter. Death was incident to child-birth, she having only a few days before given birth to a son. The dear deceased leaves a grief stricken husband and four little children to bewail the loss of a loving, affectionate wife and a kind and indulgent mother. She was a consistent Christian and entertained no fears of entering the Unseen world, though with Christ-like spirit and yearning mother's heart she expressed a desire that she might live for the sake of her cherished family. About a death-bed scene such as hers truly the Psalmist straight, sing, "Oh, death, where is thy sting: Oh, grave, where is thy victory." A host of sad friends mingle their tears with the burning tears of the bereft husband and motherless littles ones.
