Notes for Reuben Wheelis: Reuben bought 200 acres of land from his father Benjamin Wheelis Sr. (Wheeless in records) on March 13, 1790 while they lived in Surry County, North Carolina (now Yadkin County). The deed was also a will for it stipulated that it would not become effective until he (Benjamin) and his wife Elizabeth were deceased.. The deed was probated the later part of that year. So, this gives us the date of Benjamin and Elizabeth's death. Also, as the custom was in those days, they were probably buried somewhere on that land. Later Reuben moved his family from Surry County, North Carolina to Claiborne County, Tennessee. He then moved with his family and settled permanently in Washington County, Illinois. They were one of the first white families in that area.
This land was part of a grant that Benjamin Wheeless, Sr. had received a few years before on the Yadkin River. (It is now in Yadkin County, North Carolina>) Their neighbor was the famous Boone family from which Daniel Boone came.
Other family members show death as October 01, 1818.
