| ROBERT DOUTHAT was born in Washington Co., MD in 1778. We have no information on his parents. He shows up again in 1800 in a marriage bond to MARY (POLLY) YOST, Augusta Co., VA. POLLY YOST is the daughter of HENRY and MARY WAGGONER YOST. HENRY is the son of HANS CASPER YOST who immigrated to PA from Germany in 1733. From 1800 to present we have been able to track the DOUTHATS and their children. We are currently working on 3 questions: 1) Who are ROBERT DOUTHATS parents? We are looking at different spellings to see if we can locate them. DOUTHERD, DOWTHER, DOTHER, DOUTHAN, DOUTITTE... The families of JOHN DOUTHIT of NC are well known to us, as are the ROBERT DOUTHAT FAMILIES of Augusta and Charles City, VA. What is interesting is that our ROBERT seems to be in the same places as both of these families. JOHN DOUTHIT, of NC, was in MD on Tom's Creek along with his brothers and our ROBERT was born in the adjacent county. He then moves to Staunton, VA where lives another ROBERT DOUTHAT (the uncle of the ROBERT DOUTHAT of Charles City, VA). 2) Who is the JOHN DOTHER-DOWTHER in WASHINGTON'S COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S GUARD? He was first in the 1st Penn Reg, and in 1777 he was picked to serve in the Guard. He began his Revolutionary service at Marsh Creek, now Gettysburg, PA and served until the war's end. 3) Who is the JOHN DOTHER-DOWTHER in SHELBY CO, KY? He served under SCOTT and ADAIR in the KY Militia (he had also served under them in the Guard). He appears to be here from 1793 to about 1800 and then we lose him again. We would also love to have information about the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S GUARD and the KENTUCKY MILITIA. Please feel free to contact us. |
