| John Henry Brooks was born June 12, 1824 in Georgia; possibly Franklin or Gwinnett County. His parents were Zimri and Mary Brooks of Gwinnett County. John married Nancy Caroline Couch in 1841. Nancy was the daughter of Levi and Linnah Stone Couch and was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina in November 1822. John and his family migrated to Coweta County, Georgia about 1847; Levi Couch had migrated from Gwinnett to Coweta County in approximately 1844. John Brooks and his family lived in the 1st district of Coweta County near Thomas Bridges and Nancy Moses. By 1865 John and the family are in Calhoun County, Alabama. He and his family were enumerated in the 1866 Calhoun County, Alabama State Census. This area became Cleburne County in December, 1866. John's father, Zimri also relocated to the same area in Alabama in approximately 1860. John and Nancy made their home in the Fairplay/Coldwater area of Cleburne County until their deaths. John was a blacksmith and farmer. I am also researching the family of Noel and Martha Jane Williams Nelson who was found in Morgan, Walton, and Carroll Counties, Georgia; finally settling in Cleburne County, Alabama about 1868. Noel's parents were Moses and Sarah Malcom Nelson. Any information about these families would be appreciated. I am willing to share the information that I have. |
