The application states that he intended "to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to George V King of Great Britain and Ireland of whom I am now a subject". His signature on the form clearly shows him spelling his middle name with an "E" as does his marriage license. But later in life, he frequently used "A". As a matter of fact, his son, Clement, used "Alexis" as his middle name throughout his life but was rarely referred to as a "Junior". Clement also swore on his immigration documents that he was neither an anarchist nor a polygamist! Caroline Rebecca Temple. Notes for Erskin Coleman Robison: According to the personal recollections of Sarah Robison Coker, Erskin's daughter, some of Erskin's brothers paid no particular mind as to whether their family name was spelled "Robinson" or "Robison". This bothered Erskin and he "got after them quite a bit about it". Again, according to Sarah Robison Coker, Erskin was the tax collector in Limestone Co, Alabama. Due to his "generous" nature, and the fact that many folks took advantage of the situation, Erskin's fortunes fell as he lost many of the properties that he had acquired in Athens. This and the fact that his daughter Sarah suffered from epilepsy, prompted Erskin to move his family to Evergreen, Conecuh Co, Alabama where the mineral waters that ran there were said to have curative powers. Eugenia Adelaide Donaldson. Notes for Henry Wright Dunn, Sr: Henry Wright Dunn, Sr, was a very successful businessman in Conecuh Co. Not only did he own a great deal of rental property, but he was also a partner in a large hardware business with a Mr RutlanD His other interests included a Ford dealership. Henry was the 2nd franchised Ford dealer in Alabama, being the dealer principal of Evergreen Motor Car, Co. Ford Motor Company had much to say about the way Henry ran his dealership at the beginning of the 20th century, not at all unlike the way the "factories" have much to say about the way dealerships are operated in the 21st century. According to the report submitted to the Atlanta Branch Office dated March 24, 1917, "Agent has good business ability and makes a good personal appearance. Financial standing is OK." The report goes on to describe the local demographics, the condition of the facility, the advertising Mr Dunn was willing to pay for, inventories, sales, and the prospects for continuation of the franchise agreement. Interestingly, Henry Wright Dunn also represented Buick, a fact that was severely frowned upon by the Ford representatives. There was an agreement made to stop representing Buick. It was noted that..."the moral of other parties (Henry and partners)...is not pronounced as they all ride in other make cars." It was probably one of the "other make cars" that Henry was driving the day he rode out of town to pick up a nurse who was to stay with the family and care for someone who had contracted influenza in the Dunn HouseholD Henry's car stalled on the hill heading out of Evergreen. Unable to either brake or restart the engine, the car coasted backward downhill and collided with the #5 L&N passenger train. The car was destroyed and Henry was thrown several hundred feet from the accident. He succumbed to his injuries 2 days later. His tombstone is engraved with the following: "Death Loves a Shining Mark". Joined the Navy when he was 16 yrs old before finishing high school. He went to communications school. Stationed in China in 1928 or 1929 for 2 years. He went to Aviation school and became an Aviator in 1928. During WWII, he flew R4D's and PBY's and PBM's. Some of his stations were California, Rhode Island, Norfolk, Virginia, Dahlgren, Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Argentia, New Foundland and Panama (for 5 years total, 1937-39 and 1946-49). Argentia was the last place that Eugene Dunn was stationed, as he had a heart attack in 1951. He then received a medical discharge in 1952 and retired to Florida. A report on March 4, 1864 reported the current prison population was about 7,600. By the end of July 1864, the Confederate Cemetery had a population of over 1,300, fully two-thirds of the prisoner deaths that were to occur during the life of the camp, which had been in existence only eight months. It is estimated that the peak population of the camp, at any one time, was about 8,600 This information was abstracted from the "Register of Confederate Dead Rock Island Illinois compiled in the Office of the Commissioner for Marking Graves of Confederate Dead, War Department, 1912". The complete listing along with "A Short History of the Rock Island Prison Barracks (Revised Edition)" by Otis Bryan England may be obtained from the Museum, U.S Army Armament, Munitions, & Chemical Command, Rock Island Illinois 61299-6000, no copyright. His tombstone states that he was 75 years of age when he died in 1852 which would make his year of birth approximately 1777. There are 3 issues to keep in mind: 1) The engraver of his tombstone misspelled both Hezekiah's first name and his last name as "Hesakiah Robrson". There is little doubt he may also have also gotten his age wronG 2) Hezekiah himself gave his age as between 50 and 60 on the US Federal Census in 1840, which, if indeed he was born in 1784, would make his age of 56 match both the 1784 time frame and the 50-60 year old range. 3) The 1850 US Federal Census conforms to the 1840 Census where Hezekiah (or perhaps his wife Tabitha) lists his age as 66. This is in perfect alignment with the age range in the 1840 census and the year of birth as 1784. One non-conforming issue: The 1830 census lists Hezekiah, with his surname spelled ROBINSON, as being between 50 and 60. The mystery continues! " Dave Robison ***************************************************************************************************************************************************** Hezekiah first married Anne Grantham. He is buried at Franconia cemetery which is located on the old Carrollton to Aliceville road This was originally the site of a Presbyterian church that was founded in 1837. Thomas Robertson came from Limestone Co, Alabama at about the age of 15 years. The story that has been handed down was that he came down the Tombigbee river on a riverboat that was carrying cotton south and he got off in Aliceville about the year 1835. On 1850 census records does not show value of real estate for Thomas Robertson, but shows father-in-law James R Watts real estate value as $2,500. Robertson and Watts lived on adjoining property. The 1860 census shows Thomas D Robinson/Robertson value of real estate as $1,200 and value of personal estate at $8,000. Father-in-law living on adjoining property, real estate value $6,000, personal estate valued at $27,000. In 1870 census Thomas Roberson/Robertson value of real estate had dropped to $400, personal estate to $550. Assume the drop in real estate value and value of personal estate was because of the Civil War 1861-1865. **This is a partial list of the many land deeds of the Robertson Family and related families located at the Probate Building, Carrollton, Pickens Co, Alabama. Samuel Coleman Robinson, born 28 Dec 1831 in Elkmont, Limestone Co, Alabama; died Bef. 1840 in Elkmont, Limestone Co, Alabama. Notes for Samuel Coleman Robinson: Samuel's death is assumed to be prior to 1840 as he there were only 2 males aged 5-10 listed on the US Federal Census when Samuel and his twin brother Green would have been 8 or 9 and their younger brother Arthur would have been 6. Since the names are not listed in 1840, it cannot be detemined which 2 of the 3 were alive at that time. But in the 1850 census, only Green at age 18 is listed (10 years older than the 1840 census) and Arthur at age 16. Thus it is possible that Samuel had deceased prior to the 1840 census. It is also possible that Samuel was living on his own, but the lack of him appearing on any other census records would preclude that assumption.
