I am researching the McCreary-Jackson-Robinson-Williams family of Alabama. In 1977, we started a combined family reunion in Detroit, Michigan hosted by the family of Joseph and Macey Robinson. Subsequently, the family has periodically held a formal reunion at various family member locations. The frequency of the event has evolved into an every-other-year occasion. The family reunion has become the catalyst behind this genealogy research. Recognizing that the elder family members are departing, the intent is to preserve the memories, legacies, and heritage of this great African-American family.
Starting with the McCreary family, my research has led me to focus on Wilcox and Monroe counties of Alabama along with South Carolina. According to an elder family member, the beginning of this root started around 1830 with the McCreary and Spencer family. They were brought to the United States from France as slaves to be sold as slaves. The families were separated. The fathers were sold and taken from their wives and children. This took place in South Carolina. The wives and children were the Spencer's side. The McCreary family, the father side, were settled some where in the state of Mississippi. No one heard from the father side since. Rachel Spencer (called "granny") became the root of this tree. She had one sister (Criss Spencer) and one brother. Through an auction, this slave family became the property of slave owners named "McCreary". They migrated from South Carolina to Wilcox County Alabama. After being freed, the McCreary family settled in Nadawah Alabama (Monroe County) and acquired a lot of land.
The root of the Jackson tree started with the union of Samuel "Ike" McCreary and Tina Noble Jackson. Tina mother name was Charlotte "Charity" and father named William Jackson of Marengo County, Alabama.
The connection with the Robinson tree started when two brothers, Rev. Fred Douglas Robinson and Joseph Robinson, married two sisters, Mary Virginia McCreary and Macey McCreary. Fred married Mary and Joe married Macey. Collectively, they have had 15 children. Fred and Joe Robinson father name is Calvin Robinson and Grandfather name is Moses Robinson of Autauga County Alabama (Prattville).
The connection with the William tree started with the union of Calvin Robinson and Lillie Mae William also of Autauga County Alabama (Prattville). Lille mother name is Lettie and Father name is John Williams of Autauga County Alabama (Prattville). Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.
