  Notes for John Bull:
Volume III of The Ontario Registers (Western District Marriages of Rev, John H. Huston of the Methodist Episcopol Church, Dawn), p. 69, lists a John Bull of Zone Twp. marrying Ruth Gibb of Mosa Twp. on 19 November 1844. Witnesses were Jacob Swisher and Angus Smith. Given that there is 30 years difference in the ages of Martha and John, this could be a first marriage of John and would be, more realistically, the mother of his two children.

The 1871 Census of Euphemia lists a Ruth Bull, age 45, who died 1871. It is assumed that it is Ruth Gibb, wife of John.

In 1861 the family consisted of Jeremiah Armstrong, Farmer, age 42, his wife, Mary, 34, plus children: Sarah, 13; Emily, 7; George, 4; and William, 2. It also indicates that Jeremiah had $1200 invested in a saw mill.

      61. Frances Boomhower, born 1818 in Quebec; died 1858 in Richmond, Ontario. She was the daughter of 122. Peter Boomhower and 123. Christina Lampton.

Notes for Alexander Babcock:
Notes from Linda Corupe:

The Babcock family lived in the little town of Roblin, which is just a few miles away from Selby, and a little bit further from the county seat of Napanee. Unfortunately, the tombstones of the family either never did exist (perhaps they were wooden crosses), or else have been destroyed over the years. The Salmon River runs through Roblin, and the town built a bridge over it as part of the highway several years ago. In doing so, they destroyed part of the cemetery. Alexander Babcock's first wife, Fanny Boomhower, would probably have been there. Alexander himself is probably in Napanee, although I have never found his grave. He married Wealthy Ann Oliver on Nov. 21, 1858, as his second wife after Fanny died, and the marriage was not a happy one. They lost at least one child, and I think more. Only one boy, Ephraim, survived childhood. Alexander and Wealthy Ann separated. In the census, Wealthy Ann is listed as a widow, although she was not, and Alexander lived alone in a boarding house. Near the end of his life, probably when he was getting past labour and having problems supporting himself, he was picked up as a vagrant and put into the county jail. In those days, this was pretty well equivalent to a senior's home, if you did not have anyone to keep you.

From the Napanee Standard of Jan. 10, 1885:

On Friday night last, Alexander Babcock closed his eyes upon the vicissitudes and cares of this world and passed to his final rest in the county gaol. He had been confined in the institution since the middle of November as a vagrant, and had been ailing more or less from the time of his admission. During the night of Dec. 31st, he was seized with paralysis from which his reduced system could not rally, and on Friday night the end came. On Saturday forenoon, the inquest required by law was held in the gaol, and a verdict was returned to the effect that death was caused by general paralysis."

Perhaps his grave is at the gaol. There was no death certificate registered. Alexander and Fanny had Hester A., born ca. 1837 (She married William Airhart and died of a fever, probably childbed fever, before 1861.), Sylvester, born ca. 1839, Sarah Jane, born ca. 1844. (She married William Perry and moved first to Napanee, then to Watertown, N.Y., and from there to Detroit, Michigan, where I lose track of them), Mary Ann, born ca. 1846 (no further information), and Frances, born ca. 1858 or 9. I am not sure which wife Frances belongs to. I am guessing that Fanny died in childbirth, and the baby was named after her, but can't prove it. I have no further information on Frances.
